Swimming Lessons
Our swimming lessons follow the Lifesaving Society’s Swim for Life program. Swim for Life focuses on lifesaving skills, water safety, and stroke development, helping participants build confidence and competence in and around the water.
Our programs are delivered in a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment, and are designed to support participants of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds.
Lesson Schedule
Swimming lessons are offered throughout the year
in the following sessions:
Fall Session
September to December
Spring Session
April to June
Winter Session
January to March
Summer Session
July and August
Lessons are offered once, twice or five times per week, depending on the session and program level.
Program Options
We offer Swim for Life programs for a variety of ages and skill levels.
Parent & Tot – Swim for Life
Caregiver‑and‑child lessons that introduce infants and toddlers to the water while building comfort, safety awareness, and movement skills together.
30-minute classes
8 classes per session
Preschool – Swim for Life
Introduces young children to the water through fun, safety‑focused activities that build comfort and basic skills.
30-minute classes
8 classes per session
Youth – Swim for Life
Youth Swim for Life: Progressive levels that develop swimming skills, endurance, and water safety knowledge.
Swimmer 1-2 – participants must be at least 5 years of age: 30-minute classes, 8 classes per session.
Swimmer 3-6: 45-minute classes, 8 classes per session.
Swimmer 7-9: 60-minute classes, 8 classes per session.
Adult – Swim for Life
Lessons for beginners and experienced swimmers focused on confidence, skill development, and water safety.
Leadership & Certification Programs
Lifesaving Society leadership courses that support skill advancement and pathways toward aquatic certification.
Private & Semi-Private
Swimming Lessons
Available for all program options listed above for participants who prefer or require a more individualized learning pace. Lessons are subject to instructor availability.
Become a Lifeguard or Swim Instructor
Becoming a lifeguard or swim instructor is a rewarding way to build leadership skills, support water safety, and prepare for employment in aquatics. The Lunenburg County Lifestyle Centre offers Lifesaving Society programs that guide participants through each step of the certification pathway.
Lifeguard Pathway
To become a certified lifeguard, participants progress through the following Lifesaving Society certifications:
- Bronze Medallion
- Minimum 13 years of age, or Bronze Star certification
- Develops lifesaving judgment, rescue skills, and endurance
- Bronze Cross
- Completion of Bronze Medallion
- Current Standard Emergency First Aid certification
- Builds advanced lifesaving and supervision skills
- National Lifeguard
- Minimum 15 years of age
- Completion of Bronze Cross
- Completion of Intermediate Workplace First Aid with CPR “C”
- Prepares candidates for lifeguarding in aquatic facilities
Swim Instructor Pathway
To become a Swim Instructor, participants must complete:
- Bronze Cross
- Swim for Life Instructor Course
- Minimum 15 years of age
- Focuses on teaching skills, swimmer development, and safe instruction practices
Swim instructors teach lessons following the
Lifesaving Society Swim for Life program.

Accessibility & Inclusion
At the Lunenburg County Lifestyle Centre, we are committed to creating an inclusive and accessible aquatic environment for all members of our community.
Our facility features a zero-entry ramp in the lap pool, allowing for easy and gradual access to the water. A chair lift is available for use in all three pools, providing safe entry and exit for those who require additional support. We also offer aquatic walkers and wheelchairs to help individuals move comfortably in and around the pool area.
Inclusive programs such as our Sensory Friendly Swim and Women & Girls Swim help create accessible recreational opportunities for a wide range of community members.
